Emory Men's Tennis Falls at AUM
The Emory men's tennis team saw its nine-match win streak
come to an end on Tuesday as it dropped a road decision to NAIA
power Auburn-Montgomery. The Eagles, ranked No. 2 in Division
III, saw their record slip to 17-3 following a 6-3 setback to the
Senators who boosted their mark to 18-3.
Emory trailed by a 2-1 count after doubles with juniors Chris
Goodwin and Will Humphreys earning the team’s lone point with
a 9-7 decision over Boris Obama and Bence Toth. The win was
the sixth in the last seven outings for the Eagles’ No. 1
tandem and increased the record to 16-4 this spring.
AUM, ranked No. 3 among NAIA programs, captured four of the six
singles points. Senior Colin Egan picked up one of
Emory’s wins with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 decision over Toth at the
No. 3 slot, while freshman Simon Lavoie-Perusse came away with a
solid 6-0, 6-3 triumph against Zinelabidine Jouini at No. 5.
Egan’s victory upped his record at No. 3 to 14-2 while
Perusse improved to 7-2 at the No. 5 post.
Emory returns to action this weekend (Apr. 15-17) when it ventures
to Waltham, MA to compete in the UAA Championships. The Eagles have
claimed 20 of the last 21 UAA crowns and enter this year’s
event as defending champion.
