Emory's Chris Goodwin Named UAA Tennis Player Of The Week
Emory University junior Chris Goodwin (Rockville, MD) has
been named by the University Athletic Association as Men’s
Tennis Player of the Week following his performance in helping the
Eagles to a split of a pair of matches. It marks the fifth time in
his career that he has been tabbed for the honor.
In the team’s 5-4 loss to Auburn-Montgomery, the No. 2-ranked
team in NAIA, Goodwin defeated Boris Obama, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 2
singles and then joined forces with Will Humphreys at No. 1 doubles
for an 8-4 victory. Later on that day, Emory notched an 8-1
win over Oglethorpe with Goodwin posting a 6-1, 6-2 verdict over
Ross Beall at No. 2 singles and then teaming up with Humphreys for
an 8-3 triumph over Beall and Sandy Christofferson at No. 1
doubles.
Goodwin, 4-0 at No. 2 singles so far this spring, and his Emory
teammates will play Division I member Georgetown on Thursday, Feb.
17, in McLean, Va., before competing at the ITA National Indoor
Championships this weekend (Feb. 18-20) in Fredericksburg, Va.
