No. 3 Emory Men's Tennis Beats No. 13 Johns Hopkins

The No. 3-ranked Emory men's tennis team captured its seventh straight match Wednesday afternoon, as it recorded a come-from-behind 6-3 victory over No. 13 Johns Hopkins University at the Woodruff PE Center.  The victory upped the Eagles’ record to 15-2 on the year.

Emory faced a 2-1 obstacle after doubles with junior Eric Rothschild and freshman Ayush Bajoria picking up the team’s lone point at the No. 2 spot with a 9-7 decision over Warren Elgert and Andrew Wang.

The Eagles bounced back by winning five of the six singles matches with two of those going into a third set.  Junior Dillon Pottish dropped his opening set at the No. 1 before rallying for a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Wang, raising his overall record to 26-1, 17-0 during the spring.  Junior Chris Goodwin topped Elgert at No. 2, 7-6, 6-3,  raising his spring ledger to 15-2.  Senior Colin Egan bolstered the Emory fortunes with a 6-3, 7-6, verdict over Andy Hersh at No. 3 while freshman Nick Szczurek came away with a three-set thriller over Casey Blythe at No. 4, 6-3, 6-7, 7-5.  Freshman Simon Lavoie-Perusse was the squad’s other winner in singles, besting Jeremy Schwartz in three sets at the No. 5 spot.

Emory returns to action on Friday (Mar. 25) when it hosts Chicago starting at 2:00 p.m.
