Emory Men's Tennis Rolls On Second Day Of ITAs
The Emory University men’s tennis team dominated the
action on Saturday at the ITA South Atlantic Regional Championships
and will be represented in both the singles and doubles
championships on Sunday. The Regionals are being hosted by
Emory University.
Junior Dillon Pottish, the defending singles champion and No. 1
seed, recorded a decisive 6-0, 6-0 win over Marcus Ribbenstedt in a
third-round match before notching a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over teammate
Peter Marcinkowski in the quarterfinals. Pottish has been tough at
the Regionals thus far, winning 48 of 49 games in his four
victories. Pottish will meet fellow Eagle Will Humphreys in
the semis. Humphreys earned a spot on in Sunday’s
action following a three-set win over teammate Alex Chun, 6-2, 6-7,
6-1.
Senior Colin Egan advanced to the semifinals thanks to a 6-0, 6-1
victory over Sawyer Voges in the third round and a 6-2, 6-2 verdict
over Emory freshman Simon La Perusse in the quarterfinals.
Egan will meet up with junior Chris Goodwin, the No. 2 seed, in the
semifinals. Goodwin captured a pair of matches on Saturday
including a 6-2, 6-4 win in the quarterfinals against Fred Lemongo
of North Carolina Wesleyan.
The doubles final will have an Emory flavor as well with the tandem
of Goodwin and Humphreys battling the Eagles’ duo of Eric
Rothschild and Pottish. Goodwin and Humphreys came out on top
against Egan and Le Perusse, 9-7, in the semis while Pottish and
Rothschild topped teammates Alex Chun and Ayush Bajoria, 8-1.
