Emory Tennis Posts Wins Over No. 16 Redlands

After seeing a six-match win streak snapped on Wednesday, the No. 4-ranked Emory men’s tennis team got back into the win column on Thursday with a victory over No. 16 University of the Redlands.  The Eagles raised their spring record to 9-2 following a 7-2  triumph over the Bulldogs who slipped to 4-4.

After dropping the opening doubles point, Emory bounced back to capture the next two matches.  The No. 3 tandem of Dillon Pottish and Colin Egan even things up with a 9-7 decision over Connor Hyde and Mark Bloom before the No. 1 duo Chris Goodwin and Will Humphreys gave the Eagles a lead they would not surrender when they came away with a 9-7 verdict over Cameron Spearman and Anish Nanda, upping their spring record to 9-2.

Goodwin was the first Emory player to register a win in singles as he bettered Nanda by a 6-2, 6-4 score at the No. 2 spot.  Egan saw his record go to 6-2 at No. 3 when he notched a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hyde.  Freshman Nick Sczurek remained undefeated in singles this spring as he finished off Hammond, 6-3, 7-6, at No. 4.  Other singles winners for Emory included Dillon Pottish at No. 1 and Simon Lavoie-Perusse at No. 5.

Emory returns to action on Friday (Mar. 11) when it plays Vassar in an opening-round match of the Stag-Hen Invitational hosted by Claremont-Mudd Scripps.
