Emory Softball Tops Washington U. -- Captures UAA Championship
The No. 10-ranked Emory softball team claimed its second
straight and fifth University Athletic Association championship
following its victory over Washington University Sunday
morning. The Eagles raised their record to 20-0 (6-0 UAA)
following a six-inning, 8-0 decision over the Bears. The
Eagles have outscored their conference foes by a 65-3 margin with
two more games to be played on Monday.
Freshman designated player Megan Light and senior outfielder
Brittany Boeshore were the offensive stars in Emory’s second
triumph over the Bears. Light went 3-for-4 at the plate and
socked her sixth homer of the year, a two-run shot in the bottom of
the sixth inning that closed the contest out. Boeshore picked
up a pair of hits in three trips to the plate, including a
three-run round tripper in the fifth inning, and totaled four
RBIs.
Holding a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth, Emory
stretched its lead to 3-0 when Boeshore drove home her first run on
a single that scored Light and freshman Catherine Norman drew a
bases-loaded walk that enabled Jessica Thomas to cross the
plate.
Junior Bridget Holloway tossed all six innings en route to boosting
her season record to 10-0. She fanned six and walked just one
batter and now posts an ERA of 0.84 over 58 innings of work.
Emory looks to continue its winning ways when it closes out the UAA
Tournament on Monday with games vs. Rochester (10:00 a.m.) and
Brandeis (12:30 p.m.)
