Pottish Named UAA Tennis Player Of The Week -- Recipient of Sargent Sportsmanship Award
Emory University junior Dillon Pottish (East Quogue, NY) has been selected as the University Athletic Association Tennis Player of the Week after capturing the Division III singles title at the ITA Small College Championships. It marks the second time this year and ninth time in his career that he has captured the UAA honor.
Pottish, the Division III No. 1 seed, opened with a 6-2, 6-2, victory over Andrew La Cava of Whitman College in the quarterfinals before registering a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Andy Hersh of Johns Hopkins in the semifinals. In the championship battle, Pottish bested Adam Putterman of Washington University, 6-0, 6-1. The victory advanced Pottish into the 'Super Bowl' portion of the Championships where he fell to Chris Freeman of NAIA member Embry-Riddle, 3-6, 4-6. The setback ended Pottish's fall record at 9-1.
In addition to his impressive run in the ITA Small College Championships, Pottish was the recipient of the 2011 James O'Hara Sargent Sportsmanship Award, presented by Rolex Watch, USA.
The James O'Hara Sargent Sportsmanship Awards go to players who display outstanding sportsmanship and exemplify the spirit of college tennis during the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships.
The award is given in memory of Jim Sargent, former Media Manager for Rolex Watch, USA, who was involved in a fatal car accident in 2000. A great friend of college tennis, Sargent was an ITA All-American who competed with outstanding success and sportsmanship at Lynchburg College, and afterwards continued as a special partner to the ITA in his role with Rolex.
