(Feb. 21) - The No. 1-ranked Emory University men's tennis team heads to St. Peter, Minnesota, this weekend where it looks to defend its championship at the ITA National Indoor Championships. Serving as the host of the Championships will be Gustavus Adolphus College with all the matches taking place at the Swanson Tennis Center.
This year's field is stacked with talent with seven of the top 12-ranked D-III squads vying for the coveted indoor crown. Emory enters this year's event as the two-time defending champion after topping UC-Santa Cruz, 7-2, in the 2012 title match.
Emory enters the event as the top seed and will battle host Gustavus Adolphus in its opening match on Friday at 5:00 p.m. (CST). The winner will advance to the semifinals on Saturday to meet either UC-Santa Cruz or Trinity (Tex.). The final is slated for Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m.
Other first-round matchups include No. 2 ranked and second-seeded Kenyon vs. No. 12-ranked and seventh-seeded North Carolina Wesleyan, and 7th-ranked and third-seeded Johns Hopkins against 11th ranked and sixth-seeded Cal Lutheran.
Emory stands 3-1 entering the weekend and tuned up for the National Indoors with an 8-1 win over Washington & Lee on Tuesday of this week.
