The No. 6-ranked Emory men's tennis team begins the spring portion of its schedule on Friday (Feb. 14) when it hosts two opponents. The Eagles take on Auburn-Montgomery at 1:00 pm before closing out the day with a 5:00 pm contest against Oglethorpe University. Both matches will be played at the Woodruff PE Center Indoor Courts.
Head Coach John Browning returns 12 squad members from last year's team that compiled a 16-7 dual record that included a berth in the national quarterfinals.
The Eagle mentor welcomes back a strong group of juniors including Eric Halpern, the 2013 ITA South Regional singles champion, Alex Ruderman and Ian Wagner. That trio has combined for 118 singles victories during their careers. Seniors Jackson Isaacs, Nick Szczurek and Ayush Bajoria are seniors who should provide the Eagles a boost both in singles and doubles action throughout the year. Szczurek will serve as the captain on this year's team. Sophomores Rafe Mosetick and Will Adams both contributed significantly during the 2012-13 season after racking up 21 and 15 wins in singles play, respectively.
Auburn-Montgomery, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA ranks, comes to town with a 1-1 dual record, losing its spring opener to West Florida, 8-1, before blanking Emmanuel College, 9-0.
Oglethorpe will be making its spring season debut on Friday after post a 19-5 dual record last year, which saw the Stormy Petrels ranked No. 14 in Atlantic South Region.
Friday's outings start a three-match home stand for Emory with the team hosting Shorter University on Tuesday (Feb. 18) before travelling to Cleveland, Ohio, to take part in the ITA National Indoor Championships, Feb. 21-23.
