Emory Men's Tennis Splits Spring Opening Season Matches

The No. 6-ranked Emory men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule on Friday by splitting a pair of home matches at the Woodruff PE Center Indoor Courts.  The Eagles came out on the short end of a 5-4 decision to Auburn-Montgomery, the No. 2-ranked team in the NAIA ranks, in their first outing before closing out the day by blanking Oglethorpe, 9-0.

Junior Alex Ruderman highlighted the team's effort, claiming two wins at No. 1 singles, defeating N Pinones-Haltenhoff of AUM, 5-7, 7-6, 6-2, before rolling by CJ Antonio of Oglethorpe, 6-2, 6-1.  Senior captain Nick Szczurek also came away with a pair of singles triumphs, bettering Othmane Lalami of AUM at No. 3, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, and Ben Hirsch of Oglethorpe, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.  In doubles, junior Ian Wagner teamed with Rafe Moestick to claw to a 9-8 decision over AUM's Josh Reason and Lalmi at the No. 1 spot, and later joined up with Brandon Lee to cruise to an 8-2 verdict over the Stormy Petrels' Antonio and Hirsch.

Emory returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 18) when it hosts Shorter University in a 2:00 pm start.
