Emory University juniors Alex Ruderman and Eric Halpern will take to the courts on Thursday with the pair competing in the NCAA Division III Singles Championships in Claremont, California.
Ruderman, the owner of a 21-3 won-lost mark this year, is the No. 3 seed in the 32-player field and will meet Moises Cardenas (17-4) of Cal Lutheran in a match slated to begin at 10:30 am (PDT). The winner of the Ruderman – Cardenas contest will play of Round of 16 match later on Thursday (2:00 pm PDT) against either Alex Johnston of Middlebury or Wade Heerboth of Kenyon.
Halpern's opening match will be against No. 7 seed Steven Wu of New York University beginning at 8:45 am. Halpern checks into the singles competition with an overall record of 22-9 while Wu has compiled a ledger of 17-2. The winner advances to the Round of 16 later on in the afternoon (1:00 pm) to play against the winner of the Deepak Sabada (Chicago) vs. David Konstantinov (Whittier) affair.
