No. 2-ranked Emory University will take on 10th-ranked Williams College in the quarterfinals of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships on Monday, May 22, in a scheduled 2:00 pm start. The Championships will be held at the Champions Club Tennis Complex located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Serving as the host institution will be the University of the South.
Emory will enter Monday's match with wins in its last 11 outings and an overall record of 19-4 (16-1 in D-III action). The Eagles advanced to the quarterfinals after hosting the opening rounds this past weekend where they registered a 5-1 second-round decision over North Carolina Wesleyan and 5-0 triumph over Sewanee in the third round.
Emory has three singles players slotted among the top 15 in the Atlantic South Region including No. 1 senior Aman Manji (also ranked No. 1 nationally), No. 3 sophomore Jonathan Jemison and No. 14 sophomore Adrien Bouchet. In addition, the Eagles claim the No. 1-ranked doubles team in the Region in junior Scott Rubinstein and sophomore James Spaulding.
Over the past 28 years the Eagles have advanced to at least the quarterfinals on 26 occasions. Emory has earned a spot in the national semifinals in 11 of the past 15 seasons has won national crowns in 2003, 2006 and 2012.
Williams claims a won-lost slate of 15-7 and advanced into the quarterfinals after defeating Wilkes College (5-0) and host and No. 8-ranked Amherst (5-3) this past weekend. The Ephs have won four of their last five.
The winning team will advance to the national semifinals on Tuesday (2:00 pm) and clash with the winner of the match between No. 4-ranked Washington University and No. 27 Bowdoin. The final will be played on Wednesday at 2:00 pm.
