Emory Men's Tennis Wins At Middlebury

In a battle between a pair of D-III men's tennis powers, No. 3-ranked Emory battled its way to a win at No. 2 Middlebury. The Eagles won for the eighth straight time and raised their overall record to 12-2 following a 6-3 decision over the Panthers who slipped to 9-5.

Doubles play proved a big factor in Emory's success as it captured all three matches. The No. 2 team of senior James Spaulding and Will Wanner registered the first point with an 8-3 verdict over Noah Farrell and Peter Martin, their eighth straight success and 13th in 14 outcomes. Seniors Jonathan Jemison and Adrien Bouchet put Emory ahead by a 2-0 count following an 8-6 triumph at the No. 1 post over Lubomir Cuba and Nate Eazor. The sweep was then accounted at the third spot when Hayden Cassone and freshman Antonio Mora came away with an 8-7 (7-5) victory against Aleksandr Samets and Andre Xiao.

A 6-2, 6-3, triumph by Spaulding over Eazor at six singles put Emory one point from sealing the outcome. After Middlebury recorded its first point with a No. 2 singles, Mora secured the deciding point with a 7-6, 6-2 outcome over Stanley Morris. Emory's other point in singles came from Andrew Esses at No. 5.
