Eagles Wrap Up Competition at the Niswonger Invitational
The Emory University track and field team finished up
competition at the Niswonger Invitational on Saturday, finishing
the meet with a total of 10 top-20 finishes and a provisional
qualifying mark, while facing mostly Division I competition at the
meet.
Sophomore Lauren Attiah recording a provisional
qualifying mark in the triple jump for the second-consecutive
indoor season, reaching a distance of 11.52 meters for a
12th-place finish. The mark was the second-longest
indoor mark in school history, falling just short of her own school
record of 11.58 meters.
Sophomore Alix Dyer was the Eagles' top performer
in each of the three sprint events, finishing 23rd in
the 400-meter dash (59.52 seconds), 37th in the 60-meter
dash (7.96 seconds) and 82nd in the 200-meter dash
(26.59 seconds). Sophomore Sara Gelb was the
Eagles' top-performer in the unseeded mile, finishing
10th with a time of 5:28.70, while senior
Rebecca Flink was 12th in the unseeded
5,000-meter run with a mark of 18:27.64. Sophomore
Jasmine McCullough recorded a time of 9.75 seconds
in the 60-meter hurdles, good for a 47th-place
finish.
On the men's side, senior Alex Greenhouse was the
Eagles' top performer in three events, finishing 18th in
the 400-meter dash (50.40 seconds), 48th in the 60-meter
dash (7.09 seconds), and 49th in the 200-meter dash
(22.67 seconds). Senior Alex Robin turned in
a ninth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a mark of 1:57.77,
while Stephen Ellwood finished seventh in the
unseeded mile run (4:28.32), senior Tommy Fyffe
finished fifth in the 3,000-meter run (8:51.68) and senior
Greg Decker finished seventh in the 5,000-meter
run (15:08.20). Senior Fritz Hain was
Emory's top performer in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.67
seconds, good for a 30th-place finish.
In the field events, freshman Nelson Nwannunu was
the Eagles' top finisher in both the triple jump (13.24 meters) and
the long jump (6.79 meters). Rounding out the meet for Emory,
sophomore thrower Thomas Bright reached a distance
of 11.99 meters in the weight throw.
The Eagles will return to action next weekend, participating in
both the Captains' Invitational and the Clemson Games from Friday,
January 29th - Saturday, January 30th.
