Emory’s Nwannunu Earns UAA Athlete of the Week Honors for Track & Field
Emory University sophomore Nelson Nwannunu was
named the University Athletic Association’s (UAA) Track and
Field Athlete of the Week, based on his performance at the Orange
and Purple Classic.
Nwannunu recorded a provisional qualifying distance in the long
jump at the Eagles’ season-opening meet on Saturday. He
reached a career-best distance of 6.94 meters in the event, good
for a fourth-place finish out of 21 predominantly Division I
opponents. He was also the Eagles’ top finisher in the
60-meter dash, placing 28th with a time of 7.40 seconds.
This is the second time that Nwannunu has been named the UAA
Athlete of the Week, after the sophomore earned the honor on May
10th, 2010, during last year’s outdoor track and
field season.
The Eagles will resume competition on January 15, 2011 with the
Mountaineer Open at Appalachian State University.
