Emory Track & Field to Participate in Two Weekend Meets
For the first time this season, the Emory University Track &
Field team will split its squad between two weekend meets, as a
group of runners will head to the Niswonger Invitational at East
Tennessee State University, while a contingent of throwers, jumpers
and runners will take part in the Tiger Indoor Invitational at the
University of the South.
The ETSU Niswonger Invitational will be a two-day event, starting
at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 4th, and continuing
throughout the day on Saturday, February 5th. The
Emory men are currently scheduled to send 17 runners to the meet,
who will compete in the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 800-meter
run, mile run and 3,000-meter run. The women will feature 18
members of the team, who will be competing in the 60-meter dash,
200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, mile run,
3,000-meter run, 5,000-meter run and 60-meter hurdles.
Emory will be one of over 50 schools competing at the Niswonger
Invitational, in addition to a large number of unattached and club
athletes. The two-day event is scheduled to feature of 1,500
competitors, and will be held on the oversized, 280-meter indoor
track at the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center in Johnson City, Tenn.
The Eagles will be represented by a group of 31 athletes at the
Tiger Indoor Invitational, hosted by the University of the South on
Saturday, February 5th. 18 members of the
men’s team will be competing in a variety of events,
including the 55-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash,
55-meter hurdles, high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump,
shot put, and weight throw. Field events are slated for a
9:00 AM start, while the running events will begin at noon.
The Emory women will be represented by 13 members, and compete in
the same slate of events.
Emory is one of nine schools participating in the Tiger Indoor
Invitational, including Sewanee, Tennessee Tech, Birmingham
Southern, Rust, Mississippi College, Oglethorpe, Covenant and
Alabama-Huntsville. The meet will be held at the track in the
Fowler Center, on the University of the South campus.
