Emory Track & Field Earns All-Academic Honors from the USTFCCCA
The Emory University men’s and women’s track and
field teams were recognized as All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track
& Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), based
on the team members’ performance in the classroom during the
2009-10 season.
The Emory men’s team’s cumulative grade point average
of 3.45 ranked the squad third among the 68 Division III teams
recognized, behind only Kenyon College (3.50) and Pomona-Pitzer
Colleges (3.46). The Eagles were one of four University
Athletic Association (UAA) teams honored, joining Carnegie Mellon
University, the University of Chicago, and Washington University
(Mo.). Earlier in the year, Emory men’s track and field
team members Alex Greenhouse and Steve
Dry were named ESPN the Magazine Academic
all-Americans and won NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships.
The Emory women’s team recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.61,
tying the squad with Ursinus for the second highest grade point
average among the 106 institutions recognized, and trailing only
Haverford College’s 3.66 team GPA. Emory was one of
five UAA women’s teams recognized, joining Carnegie Mellon,
Chicago, Washington and the University of Rochester.
The USTFCCCA recognizes all men’s and women’s track and
field teams which record cumulative grade point averages of 3.01 or
greater as All-Academic teams. Team grade point averages from
both the indoor and outdoor seasons are combined in determining the
team’s qualifying GPA.
