Four Emory Athletes Selected to Compete at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships
Emory University's Jasmine McCullough, Theresa Ford, Lauren Attiah and Ian Francis were named to the field of competitors at the 2012 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in Waverly, Iowa next weekend.
The meet, hosted by Grinnell College at the Charles Benson Bear Recreation and Athletic Center Field House, is slated to start on Friday, March 9th, and continue through Saturday, March 10th.
McCullough, a senior, will enter the meet as the 10th-seeded competitor in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.86 seconds. The preliminaries of the event will be held at 5:50 PM CT on Friday, with the finals taking place on Saturday at 4:05 PM CT. This will be her first appearance at the national indoor meet.
Ford, a junior, will be competing in the high jump, where she ranks at the 13th-seeded competitor with a height of 1.68 meters. This will be her second Division III Indoor Championship appearance in the high jump, after qualifying during the 2010 season. The women's high jump will be contested at 4:30 PM CT on Friday.
Attiah, a senior, will be making her fourth-career appearance in the triple jump at nationals. She will enter the competition as the 10th-seeded competitor with a leap of 11.89 meters. The women's triple jump is scheduled for a 1:00 PM CT start on Saturday.
Francis, a senior and the lone competitor from the men's squad, is the eighth-seeded competitor in the triple jump with a distance of 14.87 meters. This is his first appearance in the indoor championship meet. The men's triple jump will begin at 10:00 AM CT on Saturday.
For each woman's individual event including the pentathlon, the top 15 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each men's individual event including the heptathlon, the top 13 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 10 declared relay teams — one per school — were accepted into the competition.
