Emory Cross Country Teams Compete At Foothills Invitational
The Emory University men's and women's country teams resume
action on Saturday (Oct. 10) when they compete in the Jacksonville
State University Foothills Invitational. The meet will be
held at the Oxford Lake and Recreation Park in Oxford, Alabama with
the women's 5K race scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. (CDT) and the
men's 8K competition at 10:45 a.m.
Approximately 11 teams will be competing in the men's event while
the women's race is scheduled to have 14 institutions taking to the
course.
Emory men's team, ranked 12th nationally among Division III
teams, last competed at the Griak Invitational on Sept. 26 where it
turned in a third-place finish out of 35 teams. The Eagles
had three entries finish among the top 20 led by senior
Charlie Meade who crossed the finish line in the
place out of 370 runners with a time of 25:42.
Senior
Tommy Fyffe turned in a seventh-place effort
(25:44) while classmate Paul Winterhalter clocked
in at 26:23, good for 17th place.
The women's team holds down the No. 30 spot in the national
rankings and recorded a ninth-place performance out of 37 squads at
the Griak Invitational. Sophomore Tess
Gallegos turned in the team's best effort, crossing the
finish line in 26th position out of 500 competitors with
a 6K time of 23:38. Junior Rebecca Flink was the
second Emory runner to finish with her effort of 23:50 placing her
in 32nd place.
At last year's Foothills Invitational, the women's team came
through with a first-place effort out of
