Emory Men's Cross Country Finishes 14th At NCAA Championships -- Meade Captures All-America Honors

The Emory University men's cross country team closed out the 2009 campaign this afternoon with a 14th-place finish out of 32 teams at the NCAA Division III National Championships.  This year's competition was held at the Highland Park Golf Course in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Eagles finished with 402 points and were paced by senior Charlie Meade, who captured All-America honors for the second straight season after he crossed the finish line in 12th out of 276 runners with an 8K time of 25:46.  Meade's finish marked the second-highest by an Emory runner at the NCAA Championships behind only Tony Lewis' sixth-place effort in 1985.  He becomes the third two-time All-American at Emory, joining Lewis (1984-85) and Dave Laub (1986-87).

Capturing first-place team honors was North Central with 50 points.  Williams College (181 pts.) was runner-up while Allegheny claimed third place  with 195 points.

Seniors Tommy Fyffe and Alex Robin were the next two Emory runners to score, finishing 54th and 105th, respectively.  Fyffe clocked in at 26:25 while Robin registered a 26:46.  Rounding out the team's scorers were seniors Paul Winterhalter (27:16) and Greg Decker (27:25).

Emory's finish at the Championships represented the second-highest final by the program.  The 1986 team recorded a 12th-place showing at the Championships.
