Emory Men's Cross Country Ties For Second At UAA Championships

The No. 12-ranked Emory men's cross country team tied for second place out of eight teams at the 23rd Annual University Athletic Association Championships today.  This year's competition was held at Squire Valleevue Farm in Hunting Valley, Ohio, and hosted by Case Western Reserve University.

The Eagles and Carnegie Mellon each finished with 67 points and trailed No. 7 New York University's first-place total of 41 points.  Washington University (92 pts.) claimed fourth while Brandeis rounded out the top five with 120 points.

Emory's senior trio of Charlie Meade, Paul Winterhalter and Tommy Fyffe all claimed top-10 finishes.  Meade was the first Eagle to cross the finish line and third overall in the 80-runner field with an 8K time of 26:20.  Winterhalter was fourth (26:23) while Fyffe placed eighth (26:36).   Rounding out Emory's scorers were senior Alex Robin (25th, 27:18) and Barri Levinson (28th, 27:22).

By virtue of their finishes, both Meade and Winterhalter earned First Team All-UAA honors while Fyffe landed second-team recognition.

The field's No. 1 finisher was Zach Maher of NYU with a performance of 26:06.

Emory returns to action Nov. 14 when it competes at the NCAA South/Southeast Regionals in Greensboro.
