Emory Cross Country Eyes UAA Championships

The Emory University men's and women's country teams return to action on Saturday (Oct. 30) when they compete at the 24^th Annual University Athletic Association Cross Country Championships.  The competition will be held at Van Cortland Park and hosted by New York University.  The men's 8K race begins at 10:30 a.m., and will be followed by the women's 6k competition at 11:15 a.m.

The Eagles' women's team is ranked 26^th nationally and  one of a total of five league teams that are ranked among the nation’s top 35.  The University of Chicago is slotted as the No. 7 squad on the national scene while Case Western Reserve is ranked 15^th.  Defending champion Washington University holds down the No. 16 position in the polls and host NYU is 35^th.  Last year, Emory posted a fifth-place finish with Natalie Fenn earning Second Team All-UAA honors after leading the team and coming in 11^th overall.

The UAA boasts six men’s teams among the top 35 in the nation, headed by four-time defending conference champ NYU at No. 7.  Washington University is slotted in the No. 9 position while Carnegie Mellon is 24^th.  Rounding out the ranked UAA squads include Brandeis (25^th), Rochester (29^th) and Case Western (30^th).   Last season, a senior-dominated Eagles’ team tied for second, the program’s best effort since 2002 with the graduated Charlie Meade and Paul Winterhalter capturing First Team All-UAA acclaim and fellow graduate Tommy Fyffe earning second-team acclaim.
