Emory Softball Sweeps Agnes Scott
The Emory softball team ran its win streak to five games
Wednesday evening following a sweep of a doubleheader against Agnes
Scott. The Eagles boosted their overall record to 19-9
following 8-0 and 17-0 victories over the Scotties.
In the opener, sophomore pitcher Bridget Holloway received plenty
of offensive support with the Eagles rapping out 11 hits.
Sophomore catcher Jessica Boni collected a pair of safeties and
totaled three RBIs while classmate Jessica Thomas finished with two
hits and a pair of RBIs. Boni drove in a pair of runs in a
three-run third inning and picked up another RBI with a double that
helped in a five-run explosion in the fifth frame. On the
mound, Holloway tossed all five innings and gave up just four hits
while fanning five. She now stands 9-6 on the season and has
struck out 75 batters in 104 2/3 innings of work.
In the nightcap, Emory battered the ASC staff with 20 hits that
included home runs by Thomas and freshman Ellen Kocoloski.
Kocoloski ended the contest going 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair
of RBIs while Thomas went 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Freshman third
baseman Meaghan Schultz also chipped in three hits and three
RBIs. The Eagles put up six runs in the top of the first and
crossed the plate four times in both the second and third
innings. Freshman Jamie Melson picked up the victory on the
mound, raising her record to 7-2, after tossing four innings in a
starting assignment and giving up two hits.
Emory returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 10) when it hosts Berry
College in doubleheader action starting at noon.
