Jessica Thomas Socks Two Homers As Emory Salvages Split Of Doubleheader vs. Berry
After being blanked in the opening game, the Emory softball team
responded with an offensive outburst against Berry College Saturday
in the second contest of a doubleheader on Saturday. The
Eagles salvaged a split of the twinbill, and raised their overall
record to 15-9, following a six-inning, 9-0 decision over the
Vikings.
Emory exploded for 12 hits in the win and was sparked by sophomore
left fielder Jessica Thomas who came through with three hits,
including a pair of homers, while finishing with seven RBIs.
Freshman first baseman Ellyn Kocoloski also chipped in three
hits. Freshman pitcher Jamie Melson tossed all six innings
and upped her season record to 5-2, allowing just five hits and
striking out six.
Thomas drove in her first two runs during the first inning with a
single that scored Cassie Walsh and Jen Haag. The Eagles
added two more runs in the second when freshman Dana
Goodenough’s two-out double pushed home Haag and Walsh.
Emory extended its advantage to 7-0 in the fifth thanks to a
three-run homer by Thomas, her third round tripper of the season.
Thomas added another homer in the sixth, a two-out blast that
accounted for Emory’s final runs.
The Eagles are scheduled to return to action on Sunday (Mar. 28)
when they host LaGrange College in a doubleheader starting at 1:00
p.m.
