Caitlin Fitzgerald Named UAA Softball Co-Player of The Week
Emory senior Caitlin Fitzgerald has been named
the University Athletic Association Softball Co-Player of the Week
following her performance in helping the Eagles to a 3-1 record at
the Chick-Fil-A Classic hosted by Rhodes College. It is the
third time in her collegiate career that she has been tabbed for
the honor. She shares this week's award with Ashton Hitchock
of Washington University.
Fitzgerald posted an impressive .500 batting average over the
weekend, picking up seven hits in 14 plate appearances which
included a pair of doubles and a home run. She scored three runs
and picked up three RBIs in helping the team raise its record to
6-6. She collected safeties in all four contests including
a 2-for-4 effort, with one of those hits a home run, in a
14-4 win over Hendrix College on Saturday. Fitzgerald went
3-for-4 in a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Hendrix on Sunday
and scored a run.
Through 12 games, Fitzgerald is hitting .316 with 12 hits in 38
trips to the batter's box.
The Eagles, 6-6 on the year, return to action on Mar. 9 when they
battle Brandeis University in the opening game of the UAA
Tournament in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
