Emory Softball Eager For 6-Game Homestand
The Emory softball team looks forward to a six-game homestand
this week starting with a doubleheader against Piedmont College on
Wednesday (Apr. 14). Action at Cooper Field for the twinbill
vs. the Lions begins at 2:30 p.m. On Friday (Apr. 16), the
Eagles battle LaGrange College in a double dip starting at 3:00
p.m. Emory then closes out the week with a pair of home
outings against Georgia Perimeter on Saturday beginning at
noon.
THE RECORDS – Emory heads into
Wednesday’s action with an overall record of 19-13. The
Eagles are looking to shake a four-game losing skid and are coming
off 1-0 and 3-1 setbacks at Reinhardt College on Sunday.
Piedmont College has been on a hot streak with victories in its
last 14 games. The Lions, 18-6 on the year, topped Spelman
College by 18-1 and 18-2 margins last Friday and will play North
Greenville University on Tuesday (Apr. 13) before venturing to
Atlanta.
After starting the year with seven straight losses, LaGrange has
bounced back to post an overall mark of 14-12. The Panthers
drubbed Spelman, 9-0 and 17-0 on Monday of this week, and will play
a pair of games at Berry College on Wednesday before meeting
Emory.
SERIES RECORDS – Emory holds a 14-6 edge in
the series with Piedmont. Wednesday’s games will mark the
first contests between the schools since 2008.
Emory stands 35-8 all-time against LaGrange.
THE COACHES -- Emory is led by
12th-year head coach Penny Siqueiros
(Florida State, 1992). The only coach in the history of the
program, Siqueiros has a career mark of 364-130 that includes
three softball World Series appearances, three NCAA regional
championships, eight NCAA tournament berths and four conference
titles.
Terry Martin is in his 12th year in calling the
shots at Piedmont College. At the start of the week, Martin
owns a career record of 254-203-1 and has eight seasons of 20 or
more wins under his belt.
Jennifer Claybrook is in her seventh campaign at
the helm of the LaGrange program and posts a school and career mark
of 169-121.
EMORY NOTES – Through 32 games, Emory is
hitting .355 compared to the opposition’s mark of
.245… The Eagles have collected 10 or more hits in
16contests compared to the opposition’s total of six games
… The Eagles have outscored their foes by a 196-81 margin
this year … Senior Cassie Walsh and
freshman Ellyn Kocoloski paces the squad with 15
multiple-hit games while sophomore Jessica Thomas
has 13 … Thomas checks in with a team-best seven games of
two or more RBIs … At the start of the week, Walsh is tied
with Tamara Boggs (2000-03) for the No. 2 spot on the
school’s all-time list with 213 hits … Walsh is eight
safeties shy of moving past Lauren Dix (2000-03) and into first
place in that category … Fitzgerald is 12th
on Emory’s all-time chart with 146 hits … Thomas is
batting .550 over the last seven games with 11 hits in 20 trips to
the plate … Thomas and Kocoloski share the team’s lead
in both doubles (9) and home runs (5).
