Emory Softball Splits Twinbill vs. LaGrange
The Emory University softball team split a doubleheader at
LaGrange College Thursday evening. LaGrange topped the
Eagles, 3-2, in the first game before Emory posted a 4-3 triumph in
the nightcap. The split leaves Emory’s record at
25-15.
In the opener, Emory held a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth
when LaGrange pushed home a pair of unearned runs, making the most
of two errors by the Eagles in the frame. Emory’s lone
run came in the top of the fifth when a two-out single by Cassie
Walsh scored Nikki Perez from second base. Sophomore pitcher
Bridget Holloway suffered the loss on the mound despite allowing
just four hits and striking out two in six innings of work.
The Eagles and Panthers found themselves in another closely played
affair in the second encounter. Emory finished the game with
four hits while LaGrange totaled five. Emory held a 2-1 lead
when it tacked on two runs in the top of the fifth, capitalizing on
two LaGrange errors, a wild pitch and a passed ball in the
inning. The Panthers countered with a pair of runs in the
bottom half of the inning to draw to within 4-3. However,
Holloway, who came on in relief of starter Marion Holland, kept
LaGrange at bay and earned the save, tossing 2 2/3 innings of
one-hit ball. Holland picked up her third win in four
decisions this season after going the first 4 1/3 innings, fanning
four while giving up four hits.
Emory wraps up the regular season on Sunday (Apr. 25) when it plays
a doubleheader at Maryville College.
