Emory Softball To Play Six Games In Four Days
Looking to continue its winning ways, the Emory softball team
faces a busy stretch that will see it play six games in four
days. The Eagles play a doubleheader at LaGrange College on
Thursday (Mar. 25) before facing a twinbill test at Berry College
on Saturday starting at noon. Emory then returns home on Sunday
(Mar. 28) to play a pair of contests against LaGrange with the
first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m.
Head Coach Penny Siqueiros and her squad have won 11 of their last
13 outings and stands 14-8 heading into Thursday’s games at
LaGrange. In their most recent action, the Eagles swept a
doubleheader against Spelman College on Saturday.
Through 22 games, Emory is hitting a blazing .355 and has outscored
the opposition by a 145-61 margin. The Eagles have three
players hitting well over .400, led by senior centerfielder Cassie
Walsh who checks in with a UAA-leading .494 average. Walsh
paces the team in hits (40), runs (21) and stolen bases (11) and
starts the week with a 20-game hitting streak. Freshman first
baseman Ellyn Kocoloski, recently named the Most Valuable Player of
the UAA Tournament, ranks second on the squad and fourth in the
league in hitting with a .458 mark. Kocoloski has socked a
team-high four home runs and is tied for the team lead with seven
doubles. Senior right fielder Jenna Lamoreaux (.414) rounds out the
trio. Sophomore Bridget Holloway headlines the Emory
pitching corps and sports a won-lost mark of 7-5 with an ERA of
2.70. Holloway has tossed 85 2/3 innings and has fanned 63
opposing batters while issuing only 10 walks.
After a slow start, the Panthers of LaGrange stand 6-10 overall and
has won five of its last six games heading into a Wednesday (Mar.
24) doubleheader against Berry, which owns a 12-10 record.
