Emory Softball Closes Out Regular Season With Six Road Games
The Emory softball team hopes to keep up its winning ways as it
closes out the regular season with six road games. On
Wednesday (Apr. 21), the Eagles venture to Piedmont College for a
doubleheader that starts at 5:00 p.m. The following day,
Emory travels to LaGrange for a twinbill that also commences at
5:00 p.m., and then winds up the week on Sunday (Apr. 24) with a
pair of contests with action starting at 1:00 p.m.
THE RECORDS – Emory has won its last four
games and now stands 23-13 on the year.
Piedmont College hosts Emory with an overall slate of 23-9. The
Lions are coming off 9-0 and 12-1 wins over Agnes Scott on
Monday.
After starting the year with seven straight losses, LaGrange has
bounced back to post an overall mark of 18-16. The Panthers
split a twinbill with Huntingdon College on Sunday, winning
the first game by a 1-0 margin before dropping a 3-0 decision in
the nightcap.
Maryville College opens the week with an overall ledger of
16-18. The Scots will tangle with Covenant College on Tuesday
and Piedmont on Saturday before meeting Emory.
SERIES RECORDS – Emory holds a 16-6 edge in
the series with Piedmont. The Eagles captured both contests of a
doubleheader last week, 4-0 in the opener, and 6-1 in the
finale.
Emory stands 37-8 all-time against LaGrange, and notched 8-3 and
4-3 victories last week.
The Eagles have claimed 28 of 32 meetings against Maryville
College. Emory notched 9-4 and 9-1 wins over the Scots
earlier this season (Feb. 20 & 21).
THE COACHES -- Emory is led by
12th-year head coach Penny Siqueiros
(Florida State, 1992). The only coach in the history of the
program, Siqueiros has a career mark of 368-130 that includes three
softball World Series appearances, three NCAA regional
championships, eight NCAA tournament berths and four conference
titles.
Terry Martin is in his 12th year in calling the
shots at Piedmont College. At the start of the week, Martin
owns a career record of 259-206-1 and has eight seasons of 20 or
more wins under his belt.
Jennifer Claybrook is in her seventh campaign at
the helm of the LaGrange program and posts a school and career mark
of 173-125.
In her first year as head coach of Maryville College is Kim
Woodward.
EMORY NOTES – Through 36 games, Emory is
hitting .355 compared to the opposition’s mark of
.235… The Eagles were ranked 21st nationally in
hitting among Division III Teams in statistics released Apr. 11 and
were No. 5 in fielding percentage … Senior Cassie
Walsh starts the week tied for first place on the
school’s all-time chart with 220 hits … The Eagles
have collected 10 or more hits in 18 contests compared to the
opposition’s total of six games … The Eagles have
outscored their foes by a 218-88 margin this year … Walsh
paces the team with 18 multi-hit games while freshman Ellyn
Kocoloski stands second with 16 … Sophomore Bridget Holloway
has registered 14 wins on the mound this year, good for a
13th-place tie on the school’s seasonal ladder
… Holloway’s 107 strikeouts places her ninth on
Emory’s seasonal chart … Kocoloski leads the squad and
is second among UAA players with a . 465 batting average …
Senior Caitlin Fitzgerald is 12th on
Emory’s all-time chart with 153 … Freshman catcher
Megan Fouse went 3-for-3 with one RBI in the second LaGrange game,
her third multi-hit performance of the year.
