Emory Softball Faces Busy Weekend
Fresh off its championship performance at the University
Athletic Association Tournament last week, the Emory softball team
gets back into action with a pair of weekend doubleheaders.
On Saturday (Mar. 20), the Eagles venture crosstown to battle
Spelman College in a twinbill that starts at noon. On Sunday, Emory
returns home to play host to LaGrange College with action at Cooper
Field starting at 1:00 p.m.
Head Coach Penny Siqueiros saw her squad post a 6-2 record at the
UAA Tournament as the Eagles captured their first league crown
since the 2003 season. Emory sealed the title on Sunday when
it notched 8-0 and 8-2 decisions over Rochester and Case
Western Reserve, respectively. Emory now stands 12-8 overall
this year.
Emory hit a blistering .374 over the eight games and was paced by
freshman first baseman Ellen Kocoloski who recorded a blazing .577
average with 15 hits in 26 plate appearances. Kocoloski
socked a pair of home runs at the Tournament and finished with a
team-high eight RBIs. Senior right fielder Jenna Lamoreaux
finished with a hefty.429 average while senior Cassie Walsh (.400)
and sophomore left fielder Jessica Thomas (.423) were other players
to hit .400 or better. On the mound, sophomore Bridget
Holloway compiled a 3-2 record, tossing 31 innings and recording an
ERA of 2.26. Freshman Jamie Melson was solid, going 3-0 while
hurling 19 1/3 innings.
Spelman, currently 0-2 on the year, will host Rust College on
Friday before meeting up with Emory. LaGrange stands 3-9
following a sweep of a doubleheader against Agnes Scott on
Tuesday. The Panthers will host Truett McConnell on Thursday
and play at Wesleyan on Saturday before playing the Eagles.
