Emory Softball Eyes UAA Tournament
The Emory University softball team heads to Altamonte Springs,
Florida, this week where it will compete at the University Athletic
Association Tournament. The Eagles will play eight games over
five days starting with a Tuesday (Mar. 9) morning contest against
Brandeis starting at 10:00 a.m. The Eagles then play a
twinbill on Wednesday against Washington University (10:00 a.m.)
and the University of Rochester (12:30 p.m.). Following
another doubleheader on Thursday, Emory will play a single contest
on Friday before closing things out on Saturday with meetings
against Rochester and Case Western.
Emory heads into the Tournament with an overall record of 6-6 and
will be in action for the first time since winning three of four
contests at the Chick-Fil-A Classic, hosted by Rhodes College, the
weekend of Feb. 27-28.
As a team, the Eagles are hitting .296 and are led by senior Cassie
Walsh's impressive .500 average (20-of-40). Walsh has scored
a team-high tying nine runs and has chipped in five RBIs. Walsh
will enter the UAA Tournament with a 10-game hitting streak and has
produced six contests of two or more safeties. Freshman first
baseman Ellen Kocoloski is hitting at a .375 clip with 12 hits in
32 plate appearances. Kocoloski has socked a pair of homers
thus far and is tied for the team lead with four doubles.
Sophomore shortstop Jen Haag will check into the Brandeis contest
with a .351 hitting mark, and has rebounded from a slow start with
a current six-game hitting streak that has seen her post a .500
mark at the plate in that stretch.
On the mound, sophomore Bridget Holloway has tossed 50 2/3 innings
while compiling a won-lost mark of 4-3 along with an ERA of
3.18. She has completed eight of her nine starts and has
fanned 27 opposition batters.
