Emory Softball Takes First Game Of Doubleheader vs. Piedmont
The No. 2-ranked Emory softball team won its eighth straight
game Thursday afternoon as it posted a victory in the first game of
a doubleheader at Piedmont College. The Eagles raised their
overall record to 35-2-1 following a 3-0 blanking of the Lions who
fell to 22-11.
Freshman pitcher Lena Brottman notched her 15th victory in 16 decisions, allowing just four hits in registering her fourth shutout of the season. Brottman, who recorded her 13th complete game in 18 starts, lowered her ERA to 1.28 and now has struck out 87 batters in 109 innings of work this year.
Sophomore third baseman Dana Goodenough and freshman Lauren Gorodetsky each collected a pair of hits and scored once in helping the Eagles boost their road/neutral record to 22-1. Emory jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when a two-out single by freshman Megan Light scored senior Brittany Boeshore. The Eagles added some distance in their half of the sixth when a sacrifice fly by freshman Claire Bailey scored Goodenough and a double by Boeshore pushed Gorodetsky across the plate.
