Emory Softball Completes Sweep Of Doubleheader vs. Covenant
Emory freshman Megan Light and sophomore Megan Fouse each picked
up three hits in sparking the No. 2-ranked Eagles’ softball
team to a 7-0 second-game win against Covenant College
Thursday. The victory closed out a twinbill sweep of the
Scots and raised Emory’s overall record to 24-0.
Light, who also scored three runs, socked a solo homer and added a
double as part of the team’s 10-hit attack, the
13th time this season that Emory finished with 10 or
more safeties in a game. The game was closely contested
through four innings with the Eagles holding a 1-0 lead after
scoring once in the third inning when junior Jessica Thomas knocked
in Light. Emory put up two runs in its half of the fifth when
Light led off with her homer before adding another run as a result
of a passed ball. Emory put the game out of reach in the
sixth frame when Light’s single enabled senior Brittany
Boeshore and Claire Bailey to cross the plate. Light
later scored on a sacrifice fly by Thomas.
Bridget Holloway turned in another strong performance on the mound,
going the distance in registering her 12th win on the
year. Holloway, who lowered her ERA to 1.16, fanned eight
batters and allowed just four hits en route to her fifth
shutout.
Emory has this weekend off before starting a six-game homestand
next Wednesday (Mar. 23) when it hosts Piedmont College in
doubleheader action starting at 2:30 p.m.
