Emory Softballs Captures Two vs. Gordon College
The Emory softball team game gave Alumni Weekend attendees and
its fans a double dose of success on Saturday as the Eagles
defeated Gordon College in a pair of meetings, claiming a 5-1
decision in the opener before claiming a 5-2 verdict in the second
affair.
In the opener, freshman Lena Brottman tossed a complete game,
allowing just six hits and fanning nine. Freshman outfielder Lauren
Gorodetsky and senior infielder Nikki Perez highlighted an 11-hit
Emory attack with each registering three safeties. Freshman
designated player Megan Light also enjoyed a big effort with a pair
of hits and three RBIs.
Trailing by a 1-0 margin heading into its half of the third, Emory
scored a pair runs on a two-out single by Light that pushed Jessica
Thomas and Perez home. The Eagles crossed the plate three
more times in the fourth on the strength of a two-run, two-out
single by sophomore Ellyn Kocoloski and single by Light that drove
in the other.
Emory quickly erased a one-run deficit in the bottom of the first
of the second contest with a five-run outburst, with a two-run
homer by Light the key blow. Following Light’s
impressive blast that hit the scoreboard in right field, the Eagles
scored a pair of runs after two were out with a triple by sophomore
Dana Goodenough and a double by Jen Haag, driving in those runs.
The five-spot was more than enough for junior pitcher Bridget
Holloway, who tossed six innings of work. Freshman Amanda
Kardys came on in the seventh frame and tossed a scoreless
frame.
Emory will host Huntingdon College on Sunday (Feb. 13) in a
twinbill starting at noon.
