Emory Softball Posts Doubleheader Sweep of Huntingdon College
The Emory softball team had its offense in high gear on Sunday,
combining for 17 runs and 18 hits in a doubleheader sweep of
Huntingdon College. The Eagles captured the opener, 10-2 in
six innings before posting a 7-0 win in the finale.
In the first game, sophomore Ellyn Kocoloski went 4-for-4 at the
plate with a pair of RBIs while freshman Lauren Gorodetsky picked
up a couple of hits with three RBIs. Freshman Lena Brottman
picked up the win on the mound, tossing all six innings and fanning
nine while issuing just two walks. Emory struck first with
three runs in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run double
by freshman Megan Light the key blow. The Eagles added single
runs in the fourth, that coming on a solo homer by sophomore Dana
Goodenough, and in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead. After the
Hawks put up a pair of runs in their half of the sixth, Emory
closed the game out in the bottom of the frame with a five-run
explosion. After a bases-loaded walk to Jessica Thomas scored
Brittany Boeshore, Gorodetsy followed with a triple down the left
field line that scored three runners. Kocoloski then drove in
the final run with an infield single that scored Gorodetsky.
In the second game, Gorodetsky continued her hot hitting with three
hits while scoring a pair of runs. Thomas and Kocoloski each
came through with a pair of RBIs while freshman Claire Bailey added
a pair of hits. Junior Bridget Holloway came on in relief in
the first inning and picked up the win, hurling seven innings and
allowing just six hits while striking out two. Kocoloski
knocked in the game’s first run when her ground out pushed
Gorodestky across the plate in the first inning. The
Eagles blew the game wide open in the fifth inning by scoring five
times, the first two coming via a Thomas single on a 1-1 pitch.
The Eagles would score once more in the sixth when a
sacrifice fly scored Gorodetsky.
The Eagles return to action next Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 19-20)
when they host the Emory Classic.
