Jessica Thomas Named UAA Softball Player Of The Week
Emory University junior Jessica Thomas
(Springfield, VA) has been selected by the University Athletic
Association as Softball Player of the Week after helping the Eagles
to four wins at the Birmingham Southern Invitational. It
marks the first time this season and second time in her career that
she has been selected for the honor.
Thomas swung a big bat over the weekend as the Eagles notched a
pair of wins over both Greensboro College and Birmingham
Southern. Thomas hit .417 with five hits in 12 plate
appearance and tied for the team lead with four RBIs, three of
which were game-winners. Four of her five were hits were of
the extra-base variety including a pair of homers. After
going 2-for-3 and scoring the eventual game-winning run in a 3-2
win over Greensboro in the opening affair of the Invitational on
Saturday, she came through with a 3-run homer and scored what
proved to be the deciding run in a 6-4 decision over BSC. In
Sunday’s 1-0 win over BSC in the final game of the weekend,
she accounted for the contest’s lone run when she homered in
the fourth inning, her third of the campaign.
A starter in all 10 of Emory’s contests, Thomas is hitting
.414 with a team-high tying 12 hits in 29 trips to the plate. She
