Emory Softball Earns Sunday Morning Win vs. Lynchburg

Senior pitcher Bridget Holloway tossed a masterful six-hit, complete-game effort in leading the Emory softball team to a Sunday morning victory over Lynchburg College.  The Eagles raised their record to 10-1 following a 5-1 triumph over the Hornets who slipped to 3-4 on the year.

Holloway was the beneficiary of a 10-hit Emory attack including a pair of safeties each by freshman catcher Micah Scharff and freshman shortstop Brooke Healey.  The Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the first when Scharff delivered a two-out single that scored senior Jessica Thomas.  LC knotted the game in the top of the third when a triple by Melanie Tenney scored Sarah Smith.   Emory went ahead for good in the fourth frame when it scored a pair of unearned runs.   The Eagles put more distance between them and the Hornets in the bottom of the six with a pair of runs, the first coming when pinch hitter Sophia Tarte doubled, scoring Boni.   Sophomore Lauren Gorodetsky then stroked a 0-2 pitch into center field that allowed Healey to cross the plate with the team's final run.

In the circle, Holloway was solid, fanning three batters in booster her season mark to 6-1.

Emory returns to action later on Sunday with a 1:45 p.m. game vs. Millsaps.
