Megan Light Named UAA Softball Co-Player Of The Week
Emory University sophomore Megan Light (Atlanta, GA) has been selected by the University Athletic Association as Softball Co-Player of the Week after helping the Eagles to a 4-0 record in games vs. Millsaps College and Lynchburg College. Light shares the honor with Rebecca Taylor of Case Western It marks the first time this season and third in her career that she has been selected for the award.
Light hit a blazing .692 (9-for-13) with seven RBIs (two game winning RBIs) and five runs scored over the four games. On Saturday, She hit a dramatic two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth that tied the game at 7-7 and delivered the game-winning RBI the following inning as the Eagles registered a 9-8 win in nine innings over Millsaps, finishing the contest with a 4-for-5 effort at the plate with 4 RBIs. On Sunday, she went 3-for-3 with three RBIs that included her team-leading third homer of the year in the bottom of the third that snapped a 1-1 tie in an eventual 8-1 win over Millsaps. She also scored twice against the Majors as Emory raised its record to 11-1 on the year.
Light has hit safely in 11 of the team's 12 contests and posts a team-leading hitting mark of .488 with 20 hits in 41 trips to the plate. In addition, she paces the squad with 16 RBIs and owns a slugging percentage of .780.
Emory returns to action this Saturday and Sunday (Mar. 3-4) when it plays two games against both Lynchburg College and Huntingdon College.
