Emory's Lora Turner Named UAA Co-Player Of The Week
Emory University senior Lora Turner (Florence,
AL) has been selected by the University Athletic Association as
Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week following her effort in
the Eagles' final home game of the year. It marks the
second time this season and third time in her career that she has
won the award. She shared the honor with Jessica McEntee of New
York University.
The 5-foot-11 Turner, playing in her final collegiate contest,
totaled a career-high 29 points in leading Emory to a 74-59 win
over Case Western Reserve University on Saturday. She scored
19 points in the second half and helped the Eagles shoot 51.5
percent from the floor and command a decisive 50-37 scoring edge
over the final 20 minutes of action. Turner hit eight-of-nine
from the floor and three-of-four foul shots in the second
stanza while sinking 13-of-17 from the field in the game en
route to her 23rd double-figure scoring contest of the year
and 10th game scoring 20 or more points. She also grabbed
seven rebounds and recorded three steals.
Turner finished 2008-09 with 419 total points, fourth on the
school's seasonal ladder, as well as posting a school record
59.5-percent mark from the floor (174-of-292). She concluded
the regular season second among UAA players in scoring average
(16.8 pgg), tied for seventh in rebounding (6.4 rpg) and first in
field goal percentage.
