Emory Women's Basketball Face Road Encounters vs. Chicago And Wash U.

GAME FACTS - The Emory women's basketball team continues University Athletic Association action this weekend as it gears up for a pair of road games.  On Friday (Feb. 5), the Eagles take on the University of Chicago in a 6:00 p.m. (CST) tip before closing out the weekend with a game at league-leading Washington University in a 1:00 p.m. (CST) start.

THE COACHES - Emory Head Coach Christy Thomaskutty (Tulane, '96) is in her seventh season at the helm of the program.  She assumed her current duties prior to the start of the 2003-04 campaign. 

Aaron Roussell (Iowa, 2001) is in his sixth year as the head coach at the University of Chicago. During his tenure, he has compiled a school and career slate of 103-43 that includes a 2007-08 conference championship.

In her 24th campaign at the helm of the Washington University program is Nancy Fahey (Wisconsin, 1981).  Heading into a Friday home game vs. Rochester, Fahey has an impressive career mark of 558-100.  She has led the Bears to four NCAA D-III national titles.

2009-10 RECORDS - Emory will meet Chicago with an overall record of 9-9, 2-5 in the UAA.  Last weekend, the Eagles fell short in home affairs to Chicago (80-70) and Washington University (70-60).

Chicago will take on Emory with an overall record of 13-5 with its 5-2 slate in the UAA good for a second-place tie.  The Maroons topped Emory last Friday before dropping a 54-52 overtime decision at Rochester on Sunday.

The Bears of Wash U., ranked No. 6 nationally by D3hoops.com, will start the week with an overall showing of 16-2, 5-1 in the conference.  Last weekend, Wash U. split road games last weekend, losing 63-51 at Rochester before defeating Emory on Sunday.

SERIES RECORDS - Chicago shows a 27-15 all-time record vs. Emory.  The Maroons have won the last five contests between the schools. Chicago is 13-7 against Emory in games played on its home floor.

Washington University leads the all-time series by a 37-5 margin.  

 EMORY DUO TO SERVE AS CAPTAINS - Coach Thomaskutty has announced that seniors Whitney Martin (Barrington, IL) and Keenan Whitesides (Wilmington, NC) will serve as captains of 2009-10 Emory squad.

EMORY PLAYERS ESTABLISH OR TIE CAREER HIGHS - Junior Liz Brandt and sophomore Sally Peterson turned in big efforts against Chicago last Friday evening, with Brandt tying her career high with 16 points, sinking a personal-best seven-of-12 from the field, and Peterson registering a career-high 15 points on five-of-nine shooting from the floor while converting all three of her attempts from the charity stripe. 

Brandt's effort against the Maroons continued her revived play over the last five games where she has averaged 9.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per outing.  Peterson's performance represented her fifth double-figure scoring performance of the campaign.

FELDMAN ON THREE-POINT STREAK - Entering this weekend's action, sophomore Becca Feldman has three-point field goals to her credit in her last eight games.  Feldman sank one from beyond the arc against Chicago before sinking two against Washington University. In UAA statistics released Feb. 1, she ranks ninth among UAA players with a 33.9 percent showing in three-point shooting (20-of-59).  She has made two or more from distance in five contests this year.

MARTIN AMONG UAA LEADERS - Whitney Martin continues to pace the team in a number of statistical categories while maintaining a presence among UAA leaders. 
Martin's team-high 12.2 per-game overall scoring average is sixth on the league's chart while her 6.7 per-game in rebounding effort places her sixth.  In addition, the Barrington, Ill., native is 10th in field goal shooting (.428) and eighth in blocked shots (1.0 bpg).

Martin has led the club in scoring in six games and has paced the team in rebounding on 10 occasions.  She has scored in double figures in 14 games this year, and has picked off six or more rebounds in 11 affairs.

NOTES -  Feldman's team-high tying 10 points against Washington University represented her 11th double-digit game of the campaign ... In her last five games, Feldman is shooting 50 percent from the field (20-of-40) and averaging 10.0 points ... Freshman Danielle Landry tied Feldman for the club's scoring lead against Wash U with 10 points, her fourth double-figure scoring effort of the season and first since a 17-point evening against Spelman College (Dec. 8) ... Landry paced the squad with six boards against the Bears, the fourth time she had led the team in that department and her 10th outing of six or more caroms ... Landry is third on the team and tied for 20th on the UAA chart with a 5.3 per-game mark in rebounding ... Senior Keenan Whitesides is second on the squad and 17th in the league in overall scoring (9.6 ppg) ... In addition, Whitesides' 5.6 per-game showing in rebounding is 19th on the conference ladder ... The Eagles' 13 steals against Chicago marked their ninth game of double figures in that category this season ... Emory is No. 2 in the UAA in steals in overall play (10.1 spg) ...  Emory is 8-1 this season leading at halftime, 1-7 when trailing at the break and 0-1 when the games is tied at halftime ... The Eagles have converted 20 or more free throws in three contests this year and post a 3-0 mark in those affairs ... Emory has outscored the opposition in 16 of 36 halves ... The Eagles have averaged 68.4 points while surrendering 59.3 in their nine wins ... In its seven defeats, Emory has averaged 61.1 points and given up 71.6
