Emory Women's Basketball Hosts Rochester -- Travel To Spelman

GAME FACTS - The Emory University women's basketball team returns to the hardwood  on Saturday (Dec. 5) when it opens the University Athletic Association portion of its schedule with a home date against the University of Rochester.  The Woodruff PE Center will be the venue for the 42nd meeting between the Eagles and Yellowjackets and tip is slated for 2:00 p.m.

The Emory-Rochester match-up will be webcast.  Handling the play-by-play duties will be Brian Reynolds.  To access the webcast, go to http://www.emoryathletics.com

Following the Rochester affair, Emory will play its final game before breaking for final exams and the holidays when it plays at Spelman College on Tuesday (Dec. 8) in a 6:00 p.m. start.  

THE COACHES - Emory Head Coach Christy Thomaskutty (Tulane, '96) is in her seventh season at the helm of the program.  She assumed her current duties prior to the start of the 2003-04 campaign. 

Jim Scheible (Clarkson, 1988) is in his 11th year as the head coach at Rochester.  Prior to his current post, he served as the head coach at Elmira College for seven seasons.

Spelman College is coached by LaVon Mercer.

 2009-10 RECORDS - Emory heads into the Rochester battle looking to shake a two-game losing streak that has dropped its record to 2-4.  The Eagles played at the University of the South on Monday (Nov. 30) and dropped a 97-87 verdict to the Tigers.  Leading the Emory effort was senior Keenan Whitesides who established career highs in both points (22) and rebounds (11).

Rochester, ranked 33rd in the nation by D3hoops.com, comes to town with a 4-1 record.  The Yellowjackets are coming off a 70-68 win against RIT Wednesday evening.

Spelman stood with a 1-2 slate following a 72-64 loss to Covenant College on Monday.  The Jaguars will play at Salem on Dec. 4 and host Bennett on Dec. 5 before meeting Emory.

SERIES RECORDS - In a series that started in January of 1989, Rochester claims an all-time record of 23-18 against Emory.  The Yellowjackets captured both meetings last season, 63-49 at Emory, and 80-72 at Rochester.  Emory holds a 12-10 advantage in games played on its home floor.

The series between Emory and Spelman originated in 1991 and the Eagles hold a 4-1 edge.  The teams last met in 2007 with Emory prevailing by a 93-55 margin at the Woodruff PE Center.

EMORY DUO TO SERVE AS CAPTAINS - Coach Thomaskutty has announced that seniors Whitney Martin (Barrington, IL) and Keenan Whitesides (Wilmington, NC) will serve as captains of 2009-10 Emory squad.

 NOTES - Keenan Whitesides' 22-point, 11-rebound  effort against Sewanee represented her first career double-double and the team's second of the year ... Her 22 points is the high-water mark by an Emory player this season ... Emory's 87 points at Sewanee represented the highest road total by a Thomaskutty-coached team and the third highest in school history behind the 116 vs. Wesleyan (Feb. 24, 1998) and 96 vs. Wesleyan (Nov. 28, 2000) ... Sophomore Becca Feldman drew her first starting assignment in the Sewanee encounter and responded with career bests with 15 points and seven rebounds ... It marked her second career effort of double-figure scoring ... Whitney Martin finished the Sewanee game with 12 points and has posted double-figure scoring in her last three and in five games this year ... Emory outrebounded Sewanee, grabbing a season-high 47 boards to the Tigers' 42, the second time this year it had an edge in that department ...
