Emory Women's Basketball Concludes 2009-10 Season At Rochester
GAME FACTS - The Emory women's basketball team
will conclude the 2009-10 season on Saturday (Feb. 27) when it
plays at the University of Rochester. The Louis Alexander
Palestra will be the venue for the 43rd meeting between
the Eagles and Yellowjackets with the game is scheduled to begin at
2:00 p.m.
THE COACHES - Emory Head Coach Christy
Thomaskutty (Tulane, '96) is in her seventh season at the
helm of the program. She assumed her current duties prior to
the start of the 2003-04 campaign.
Jim Scheible (Clarkson, 1988) is in his 11th year
as the head coach at Rochester. Prior to taking over the program
for the 1999-2000 campaign, Scheible coached at Elmira for seven
seasons.
2009-10 RECORDS - Emory will meet Rochester with
an overall record of 10-14, 3-10 in the University Athletic
Association. Last weekend, the Eagles split a pair of home
outings, recording a 70-56 Senior Night Win over New York
University while dropping a 58-38 decision to Brandeis on
Sunday.
Rochester will entertain the Eagles with an overall slate of 18-6,
8-5 in the league. Last weekend, the Yellowjackets lost to
Brandeis, 65-57, before coming away with a 60-59 triumph over
NYU. Rochester has won 11 of 12 home games this year.
SERIES RECORDS - Rochester holds a 23-19 edge in
the all-time series with Emory. The Eagles captured the
initial meeting of the year back on Dec. 5 when they posted a 60-50
win at the Woodruff PE Center. Leading Emory's effort in that
affair was senior Whitney Martin with 19 points and nine
rebounds.
EMORY DUO TO SERVE AS CAPTAINS - Serving as
captain of the 2009-10 Emory team are seniors Whitney
Martin (Barrington, IL) and Keenan
Whitesides (Wilmington, NC).
MARTIN AMONG UAA LEADERS - Heading into the final
game of the year, Whitney Martin continues to pace
the team in a number of statistical categories while maintaining a
presence among UAA leaders. Martin's team-high 11.3
per-game overall scoring average ties for seventh on the league's
chart, while her 6.3 per-game in rebounding also ties for
seventh. In addition, the Barrington, Ill., native is
11th in field goal shooting (.420) and seventh in
blocked shots (1.0 bpg).
Martin has led the club in scoring in eight games and has paced the
team in rebounding on 14 occasions. She has scored in double
figures in 15 games this year, and has picked off six or more
rebounds in 15 affairs.
NOTES - Entering this weekend, Martin holds
down the No. 12 spot on the Eagles' all-time list with 492 rebounds
... Martin enters her final contest having played 95 games during
her career, 55 as a starter ... She has chalked up 86 blocked shots
during her four years, good for the No. 2 spot on the school's
all-time chart ... Scoring-wise, she has totaled 632 points and
resides in 19th place on the school's career annals ...
Senior Keenan Whitesides posted 10 points in the
NYU victory, her 10th double-figure scoring effort of
the season ... Entering Saturday's contest, Whitesides has appeared
in 75 games as an Eagle and has drawn all 22 of her starts during
the 2009-10 campaign ... Sophomore Becca Feldman
came through with her 12th double-digit effort of the
campaign when she registered 10 points against NYU ...
Sophomore Melissa Koike shared for team honors in
rebounding for the first time in her career when she picked off a
career-high six rebounds against NYU ... Freshman Danielle
Landry has paced the team in rebounding in a total of
seven games this year ...Whitesides is shooting 46.1 percent from
the floor (88-of-191), good for second place among UAA
players ... Emory registered back-to-back games of
double-figure steals last weekend with 13 against NYU and 10
against Brandeis ... The Eagles have registered 13 games of 10 or
more thefts this year and their total of 237 ties for the
eighth-highest mark in school history ... Emory is 9-1 this season
leading at halftime, 1-12 when trailing at the break and 0-1 when
the games is tied at halftime.
