Emory Women's Basketball To Host Tip-Off Tournament
GAME FACTS - The 2009-10 Emory University
women's basketball team returns to the Woodruff PE Center this
Friday and Saturday (Nov. 20-21) when it hosts the Tip-Off
Tournament. The Eagles will take on Millsaps in a 6:00 p.m.
start on Friday with Agnes Scott and Covenant College closing out
the opening evening of action in an 8:00 p.m. tip. On
Saturday, the consolation game starts at 6:00 p.m., with the
championship tilt to follow that.
THE COACHES - Emory Head Coach Christy
Thomaskutty (Tulane, '96) is in her seventh season at the
helm of the program. She assumed her current duties prior to
the start of the 2003-04 campaign.
Mary Bolton (Nicholls State) is in her fourth year
as the head coach at Millsaps. The ninth coach in the 31-year
history of the program, Bolton enters the 2009-10 season with
a school record of 20-54.
Directing the fortunes of the Agnes Scott program for his second
season is Tony Ciccone (Florida, 1996).
Heading into Friday's action, Ciccone has a school record of 13-12
to his credit. Last year, he guided the Scotties to a 13-11
ledger. Before his current post, Ciccone served as an
assistant with the Emory women's program for four seasons.
In her second stint as the head coach of the Covenant College
program is Tami Smialek (Covenant College,
1981). Smialek returned to the bench in July of 2009 after
working in various administrative capacities the previous seven
years. She enjoyed an 18-year tenure as head coach with the
program before venturing to administration.

2008-09 RECORDS
- Emory stands 0-2 after its first two games. The Eagles
opened the season last Sunday with a 66-53 loss at home to LaGrange
before coming out on the wrong end of an 86-73 verdict at
Oglethorpe University on Tuesday.
The Emory game will be the season opener for Millsaps. The
Majors ended the 2008-09 campaign with a 10-16 record.
Agnes Scott opened its season with a tough 80-70 loss at Salem
College last Sunday.
The Scots of Covenant College lost their season opener on Monday to
Berry College by a 77-56 margin and were to host Tennessee Wesleyan
on Wednesday (Nov. 18).
SERIES RECORDS - Emory holds a slim 8-7 advantage
in the all-time series with Millsaps. The last meeting
took place in January of 2000 with the Eagles recording a 65-54
victory.
Emory is 6-0 all-time against Agnes Scott. The Eagles hosted the
Scotties last season and came away with an 85-45 win. Emory
has won all four meetings against Agnes Scott played at the
Woodruff PE Center.
The lone meeting between Emory and Covenant College took place in
February of 1990 with the Eagles registering a 58-57 win.
EMORY LOOKS TO DEFEND TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT
CHAMPIONSHIP -- Emory will be aiming to bring home
its third straight Tip-Off Tournament championship. Last
season, Emory defeated North Carolina Wesleyan (76-51) and Baruch
(88-80) en route to the crown.
In 2007, the Eagles defeated Spelman College (93-55) and Montclair
State (55-54).

EMORY DUO TO SERVE AS
CAPTAINS - Coach Thomaskutty has announced that seniors
Whitney Martin (Barrington, IL) and Keenan Whitesides (Wilmington,
NC) will serve as captains of 2009-10 Emory squad.
WHITESIDES PRODUCING IN STARTING ROLE - Keenan
Whitesides, who has made her first two starts of her career in the
team's opening two games of this year, has put up some impressive
numbers. Whitesides was second on the club with 13 points
against LaGrange, while pulling down six rebounds, and then
established career highs with 15 points and nine rebounds against
Oglethorpe. After two games, she is averaging 14.0 points and
7.5 boards.
LANDRY GIVES THE EAGLES A BOOST OFF THE BENCH -
Freshman Danielle Landry has provided a spark off the bench during
the team's first two affairs, tossing in 7.0 points and 7.5
rebounds. Landry finished the Oglethorpe contest with nine
points along with a team-high steals. In addition, she tied Keenan
Whitesides for the team lead with nine rebounds. She becomes
the first true freshman to either lead or tie for the club's high
in boards since Feb. 12, 2006, when then-frosh Kerry Madison
totaled seven rebounds against Washington University.
DOWN THE ROAD - Following the Tip-Off Tournament,
the Eagles will entertain Maryville College on Nov. 24 in a 6:00
p.m. start.
