Emory's Keenan Whitesides Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team
Emory University senior Keenan Whitesides
has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District Second Team, based on her performance both on the
court and in the classroom this season. To be eligible, a
nominee must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing
at his/her current institution, carry a cumulative grade-point
average of 3.3 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and be a starter or key
reserve.
Whitesides has started 17 of the Eagles' 18 contests and stands
second on the team and 17th among University Athletic
Association players in scoring with a 9.6 points per-game
average. She paces the club with a 45.9 percent from the
field (73-of-159), good for sixth on the UAA chart, and her 5.6
per-game showing in rebounding is second on the squad and
19th on the league's chart. Heading into a Friday
(Feb. 5) contest at the University of Chicago, she has scored in
double figures on eight occasions this year and has led the Eagles
in scoring in three games,
In the classroom, Whitesides, a neuroscience and behavioral biology
major, has a cumulative grade point average of 3.72. In
addition, she is a three-time member of the UAA All-Academic
Team.
Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Emory
nominees represent the "college division" in District 3 which is
composed of NCAA Division II and III, and NAIA schools in the
states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and
Virginia.
