Emory Women's Basketball Returns To Action
GAME FACTS – After breaking for finals
and the holidays, the Emory women’s basketball squad returns
to action with a pair of contests on the docket. On Friday
(Dec. 31), the Eagles close out 2010 with a home game against
Agnes Scott starting at 2:00 p.m. Emory then hits the road
for a Sunday (Jan. 2) battle against Maryville College starting at
2:00 p.m.
THE COACHES – Emory Head Coach
Christy Thomaskutty (Tulane, ’96) is in her
eighth season at the helm of the program. She assumed her
current duties prior to the start of the 2003-04
campaign.
In his third year as the head coach at Agnes Scott College is
Tony Ciccone (Florida, 1996). Prior to his
current post, Ciccone served as an assistant coach at Emory for
four seasons (2004-05 through 2007-08). Last season, Ciccone
directed his team to the semifinals in the Great South Athletic
Conference Championships.
Darrin Travillian (Kentucky, 1996) is in
his first year directing the fortunes of the Maryville College
program. Before being named head coach, Travillian had spent
the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons as an assistant at Maryville.

2010-11 RECORDS – Emory has won its last
three games and in the process has upped its overall record to
5-3. In the Eagles’ last performance, they recorded a
77-27 win at home against Spelman College back on Dec. 8.
Senior Courtney Von Stein paced the team’s
scoring efforts with 10 points while sophomore Danielle
Landry grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds.
Agnes Scott will meet Emory with a 3-4 slate. The Scotties
last took the court on Dec. 7 and came out on the short end of a
72-34 decision to NCAA Division II member Montevallo.
Maryville will entertain Emory with a 6-4 record. The Scots
last played on Dec. 21 when they notched a decisive 74-44 triumph
at Oglethorpe. Maryville is 3-1 at home this season.
SERIES RECORDS – Emory claims an all-time
record of 7-0 against Agnes Scott. Last season, the Eagles
ventured crosstown to battle the Scotties and came away with a
68-64 overtime victory. Emory has won all four games between
the schools played at the Woodruff PE Center.
Maryville has topped Emory in the last four meetings to take a 6-4
lead in the all-time series. Last year, the Scots registered
a 66-50 victory at the Woodruff PE Center. Maryville has won
three of the four games vs. Emory played on its home floor.

NOTES -- The Eagles are 15-3 during Thomaskutty’s tenure as head coach when scoring 80 or more points … Danielle Landry’s team-high 15 rebounds against Spelman not only represented a career high but tied for the 13th-highest single game total in school history … Landry paces both the team and the UAA in rebounding with a 9.8 per-game average … Emory’s 62 rebounds in the Spelman contest tied the fourth-highest total in school history … Freshman Selena Castillo tied her season highs in both minutes (16) and assists (5) against Spelman … Von Stein’s 10-point performance against Spelman marked her third game of double-figure scoring this year and eighth of her career … Freshman Hannah Lilly is shooting 50 percent from the floor (39-of-78), good for seventh place among UAA performers … In addition, Lilly ranks No. 3 in the league in three-point field goal percentage (.484, 15-of-31) and is ninth in scoring average (12.5 ppg) … Freshman Savannah Morgan tops the club and is third on the UAA chart in assists (4.4 apg) … As a team, the Eagles rank No. 1 in the UAA in both scoring (80.2 ppg) and steals (15.5 spg) … Emory has outscored the opposition in 11 of 16 halves … Emory has registered 10 or more steals in seven of its eight games.
