Emory Women's Basketball Eyes Upcoming Games
GAME FACTS – Looking to continue the
momentum gained from its win at home over Sewanee on Tuesday, the
Emory women’s basketball team gears up for a pair of contests
prior to breaking for finals and the holidays. On Saturday
(Dec. 4), the Eagles face a road challenge at Piedmont College
starting at 2:00 p.m., before entertaining Spelman College on
Tuesday (Dec. 7) in a 6:00 pm start.
THE COACHES – Emory Head Coach
Christy Thomaskutty (Tulane, ’96) is in her
eighth season at the helm of the program. She assumed her
current duties prior to the start of the 2003-04
campaign.
In her sixth year as the head coach at Piedmont College is
Jamie Purdy (Piedmont College, 2000). During
her stint with the Lions, she has guided the program to an 89-51
won-lost ledger that includes NCAA Tournament appearances in 2007
and 2008.
LaVon Mercer (National Louis Univ., 1995) is in
his 12th year directing the fortunes of the Spelman College
program.

2010-11 RECORDS – Emory will take a 3-3
won-lost mark into its affair with Piedmont. On Sunday (Nov.
28), the Eagles dropped an 85-60 road decision to Birmingham
Southern before bouncing back to record a 67-55 triumph at home
over Sewanee on Tuesday. Leading Emory in the win
over the Tigers was freshman guard Hannah Lilly with a team-high 14
points, and sophomore Danielle Landry who topped the squad with a
career-high 11 rebounds.
Piedmont stands 3-2 after coming away with a 71-50 win at Spelman
College on Wednesday. The Lions’ other wins have come
against the University of the South (89-67) and Oglethorpe
(67-44).
Spelman is currently 0-3 and will play at Wesleyan College on
Saturday before meeting Emory.
SERIES RECORDS – Emory has won the last five
meetings and holds a 13-10 edge in the all-time series with
Piedmont. The schools met on two occasions during the 2009-10
campaign with Emory capturing a 65-63 victory at Piedmont before
registering a 67-61 triumph at the Woodruff PE Center. Each
team was won six games played at Piedmont.
In a series that started in 1991, Emory holds a 5-1 all-time mark
against Spelman. Last season, the Eagles won at Spelman by a
73-55 margin. Emory has won two of three meetings played on
its home floor.

Koike has converted her last 11 field goal attempts, going 7-for-7
from the floor en route to a career-high 18 points against
Birmingham Southern, before sinking all four opportunites against
Sewanee on Tuesday … Emory has outscored the opposition in
eight of 12 halves … Freshman Hannah Lilly has led the team
in scoring on three occasions and has produced a team-high four
double-figure scoring contests … Freshman Savannah Morgan
doled out a season-high seven assists in the victory over Sewanee
and also snatched 10 boards … In UAA statistics released
Dec. 1, Emory ranks first in scoring (81.0 ppg), steals (16.3 spg)
and turnover margin (+7.33) … Emory has registered 10 or
more steals in all six games it has played … Lilly ranks
ninth among UAA players with an 11.5 points per game average
… Sophomore Misha Jackson paces the squad and holds down the
No. 8 spot on the UAA chart in rebounding (6.2 rpg) …
Savannah Morgan stands third on the league ladder in assists (4.5
apg) and steals (2.7 spg) and is second in assist/turnover ratio
(2.7) … Following the Spelman game, Emory’s next
action takes place on Dec. 31 when it hosts Agnes Scott
College.
