Emory Women's Basketball Hosts Rochester In 2010-11 Finale

GAME FACTS – The Emory women’s basketball team closes out the 2010-11 season on Saturday (Feb. 26) when it battles the University of Rochester.  The Woodruff PE Center will be the venue for the 45th meeting between the schools and tip is slated for 2:00 p.m.  The game will be Senior Day with Emory recognizing the contributions of Courtney Von Stein and Melinh Rozen.

THE COACHES – Emory Head Coach Christy Thomaskutty (Tulane, ’96) is in her eighth season at the helm of the program.  She assumed her current duties prior to the start of the 2003-04 campaign. 

In his 12th year as the head coach at Rochester is Jim Scheible (Clarkson, 1988).  During his run with the Yellowjackets, he has guided the program to three NCAA Division III final Four appearances (2002-03, 2003-04 and 2009-10).  Before coming to Rochester, Scheible served as coach at Elmira College for seven seasons.

2010-11 RECORDS – Emory enters the final game of the year with an overall record of 11-13 (4-9 UAA).  Last weekend, the Eagles brought home a pair of University Athletic Association road wins, defeating Case Western Reserve on Friday, 57-53, before notching a 77-54 triumph over Carnegie Mellon on Sunday.  Emory stands 8-5 in home games this season.

Rochester, ranked 12th in the USA Today ESPN Top 25 Poll and 15th by D3hoops.com, comes to town with an overall mark of 19-5, 9-4 in the UAA which is good for third place.  The Yellowjackets, winners of their last three and six of their last seven games, won twice on the road last weekend, 63-39 over Carnegie Mellon and 73-68 against Case Western.

SERIES RECORDS –  Rochester leads in the all-time series by a 25-19 margin.  The Yellowjackets won the first meeting of this season, 72-61, back on Jan. 8.  Freshman Selena Castillo topped the Eagles’ scoring effort with 13 points while junior Melissa Koike pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

NOTES –  Freshman Hannah Lilly totaled 18 points in the Carnegie Mellon game, her 13th double-figure scoring performance of the year and her high for a conference contest … Heading into the final game of the year, Lilly paces the team and ranks 11th among UAA players in scoring (11.5 ppg) … Sophomore Misha Jackson turned in a big performance against Carnegie Mellon, leading the club with a season-high tying 21 points and a season-best 13 rebounds, her first double-double … Jackson has 10 double-digit scoring performances to her credit and three outings of 10 or more caroms …In overall play, Jackson stands 15th among UAA players in scoring (10.5 ppg), fourth in rebounding (6.8 rpg) and seventh in field goal percentage (.472) … In league games, Jackson is tied for 10th in scoring (11.2 ppg), third in rebounding (6.7 rpg) and 10th in field goal percentage (.450) … Jackson has led Emory in scoring on five occasions this year and been the team’s leading rebounder in 10 games … Junior Becca Feldman’s 10 points (second high on team) at Case Western represented her sixth double-figure effort of the year … Heading into Saturday, Emory is No. 2 in the UAA and 30th nationally in scoring (73.1 ppg) … The Eagles’ per-game scoring mark is currently No. 3 on the school’s seasonal ladder … Emory’s 144 three-point field goals represent the second-highest season total in school history, just seven shy of tying the top mark of 151 set by the 2007-08 squad … Emory totaled 22 steals in the two games last weekend and in the process established a team record for most thefts in a season … The Eagles have 296 steals this year, bettering the previous mark of 284 set by the 1994-95 team … Emory has posted 16 games of double-figure steals and ranks No. 1 in the UAA and 45th on the national scene in that category (12.3 spg) … Danielle Landry’s team-high 14 boards against Case Western marked her sixth double-digit outing in that category this season … Landry, who has led or shared for team rebounding honors in 13 contests this year, leads the club and is No. 3 among UAA players in rebounding with a 7.4 per-game effort … Either Landry or Jackson have either led or shared for team rebounding honors in the last 10 games … The Eagles are 18-3 during Thomaskutty’s tenure as head coach when scoring 80 or more points … Emory has outshot 10 opponents from the floor this season and stands 9-1 in those contests … The Eagles have enjoyed an edge in the  rebounding department in nine games and post a 8-1 mark in those outings … Emory has outscored the opposition in 25 of 48 halves.
