Emory Women's Basketball Chips In At Ronald McDonald House
The Emory women's basketball team recently volunteered at
Atlanta's Gatewood Ronald McDonald House (RMH), a temporary
residency for families of children receiving treatment at
Atlanta-area hospitals.
The RMH provides programs, lodging, and support to families during
the difficult time of one of their children being in the
hospital. The Eagles helped out in two ways.
First, they participated in a program called "Baker's Club,"
where you plan and bake a variety of treats for the families to
enjoy. The morning group of bakers made rice krispie treats
and brownies, while the afternoon crew made chex
"muddy buddies" and cookies.
The team enjoyed meeting some of the residents of RMH, and
also received a tour of the facility. Emory also had a group
provide the after-dinner entertainment one night. The team
decided to play bingo with the kids and families. It was a hit, and
the kids were yelling "bingo!" left and right. The prizes were a
big deal, and the evening revealed some expert
bingo-players (the kids at RMH, not our team!) on our hands.
Both experiences gave the squad the opportunity to see what a
difference they can make in brightening someone's day.
