Emory Women's Basketball Hits The Road For UAA Contests
GAME FACTS – The Emory women’s
basketball team plays its second and third straight University
Athletic Association road games this Friday (Jan. 14) and Sunday
(Jan. 16) when it faces Washington University and the University of
Chicago, respectively. The Field House on the Wash U. campus
will be the setting for the 44th meeting between the
Bears and Eagles with tip slated for 6:00 p.m. (CST). The
Ratner Center on the Chicago campus will be the venue for the
44th battle between the programs and that affair is
slated for a 2:00 p.m. (CDT) start.
THE COACHES – Emory Head Coach
Christy Thomaskutty (Tulane, ’96) is in her
eighth season at the helm of the program. She assumed her
current duties prior to the start of the 2003-04
campaign.
In her 25th year as the head coach at Washington University is
Nancy Fahey (Wisconsin, 1981). During her
run with the Bears, she has guided the program to a school and
career record of 580-103. She has claimed a total of 19 UAA
championships and has five national titles to her credit.
Aaron Roussell (Iowa, 2001) is in his seventh year
of directing the fortunes of the Chicago program. Heading
into a Friday night home game vs. Rochester, Roussell has compiled
a school and career record of 118-48. During his stint with
the Maroons, he has guided the program to a pair of NCAA Tournament
berths along with one UAA crown.

2010-11 RECORDS – Emory heads into the
weekend with an overall mark of 7-5, 0-1 in UAA action. Last
Saturday, the Eagles opened league play with a 72-61 road setback
to Rochester. In that game, Emory faced a 20-point deficit
with 13:21 left in the game before rallying to within 10 points
with a little under three minutes remaining. However, that
was as close as the team would get. Freshman Selena Castillo
led the Emory scoring attack with a season-high 13 points while
junior Melissa Koike topped the squad with six boards.
Washington University, the defending NCAA Division III national
champion, hosts Emory with an overall ledger of 9-3, 0-1 in the
UAA. The Bears, ranked No. 10 by D3hoops.com, dropped their
conference opener last weekend to Chicago by a 73-71 margin.
Wash U. is 6-0 at home this season.
Chicago prepares to host Rochester with a five-game winning streak
that has upped its overall record to 9-3, 1-0 in the
conference. The Maroons hosted Washington University last
Saturday and recorded a 73-71 triumph.
SERIES RECORDS – In a series that dates
from February of 1989, Washington University holds an all-time
record of 38-5 against Emory. The Bears have won the last
four meetings between the schools including last season’s
70-60 (in Atlanta) and 61-47 (in Saint Louis) verdicts.
In a series that also has its origins in 1989, Chicago has captured
28 of 43 meeting against Emory. The Maroons have won the last
six contests including last year’s 80-70 (in Atlanta) and
81-52 (in Chicago) outcomes. UC claims a 14-7 mark against
Emory in games played in the Windy City.

scoring game of the campaign … Senior Courtney Von Stein
totaled 12 points against Rochester, her fifth double-digit
performance of the year … Through games played Jan.
12, Von Stein holds down the No. 3 spot among UAA players with a
44.8 percent mark (13-of-29) from three-point range …In
addition, Von Stein is No. 6 on the UAA ladder with a 51.4 percent
effort (36-of-70) in field goal shooting … The Eagles are
17-3 during Thomaskutty’s tenure as head coach when scoring
80 or more points … Heading into this weekend’s
action, Emory stands first in the UAA and fifth nationally in
scoring (78.8 ppg) … The Eagles top the UAA and are tied for
38th on the national front in steals (13.3 spg) …
Emory finished with 16 offensive rebounds against Rochester, the
eighth straight contest that the Eagles recorded double digits in
that category ... Junior Melissa Koike led the team in rebounding
for the second time this season when she grabbed six boards vs.
Rochester ... Sophomore Misha Jackson has six or more
rebounds to her credit in nine contests ... Hannah Lilly’s
team-high 11.8 points-per-game scoring average ties her for the
ninth spot among UAA players in games played through Jan. 12
… Lilly has produced six double-figure scoring games this
season and led the squad in scoring on five occasions …
Emory has outshot eight opponents from the floor this season and
stands 7-1 in those contests … The Eagles have enjoyed an
edge in the rebounding department in six games and post a 6-0
mark in those outings … Emory has outscored the opposition
in 16 of 24 halves … Freshman Savannah Morgan is tied for
fourth place among UAA players with a 4.0 assists-per-game average
… Sophomore Danielle Landry, the Eagles’ leading
rebounder in seven games, is No. 2 on the UAA list in that
department with an 8.7 per-game average.
