Adiós Madrid y hola Barcelona! This morning the team caught an early train and made the two hour trip through the mountainous countryside of Spain to the beautiful Barcelona!
When we arrived, we were surprised with a trip to the 1992 Olympic stadium where we would compete against each other in Olympic-style sports. Fran showed her skills as a sharp-shooter in the rifle competition, Safiya dominated the 100 yard sprint, and Ashley showed some real promise in wheelchair racing. Among these sports, the team also battled it out in archery, soccer, and boxing. This trip to the Olympic Stadium was definitely one of our most fun-filled adventures yet, playing on the competitive spirits of our team. Unfortunately (as a member of the yellow team), the purple team won the day, took home gold and were certainly not hesitant to celebrate.
Following our activities at the Olympic stadium, the team hit the streets for the first time in Barcelona. We briefly walked down the beautiful street of Las Ramblas and visited the Plaza Reial on our way to the main event: flamenco! The show demonstrated Spanish tradition using customary singing and elaborate guitar playing, as well as incredible, high-speed dancing and clapping. Together, the show told a captivating story of emotions through the rhythmic style and we were even lucky enough to get a picture with the main performer at the end.
The night ended with a stroll for dessert and rooftop relaxation- a perfect ending to an action-packed day.
